How to Care for Reusable Period Underwear

September 12, 2026 · 5 min read

Reusable period underwear works hard during your cycle, but caring for it does not need to be complicated. A consistent, gentle routine helps protect the absorbent layers and keeps each pair comfortable for the next wear.

Rinse after wearing

Rinse your underwear in cool water until the water begins to run clear. Avoid hot water at this stage, since heat can make stains harder to release. If you cannot rinse right away, keep the pair separate from clean clothing until you can.

Wash gently

Follow the care label on your specific pair. In general, a cold, gentle machine cycle with mild detergent is a dependable choice. Place pairs in a mesh laundry bag if you are washing them with other clothing.

Skip fabric softener and bleach

Fabric softener can coat the fibers that are meant to absorb moisture, while bleach can be hard on the fabric and protective layers. A simple detergent is usually all you need.

Air-dry completely

Lay pairs flat or hang them to air-dry before putting them away. Avoid high heat unless the care label specifically allows it. Make sure every layer is fully dry before storing your underwear in a clean, dry drawer.

A little care after each wear helps your reusable period underwear stay ready for daytime, overnight, travel, and all the ordinary moments in between.
